Climate change, the energy transition, soaring costs, demographic change, bureaucratic madness, migration, digitalization, and technological progress - today’s neighborhoods face immense challenges on the one hand and great potential for development on the other. To actively help shape the future of neighborhoods and provide impetus for tomorrow, the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering (IAO) founded the Future District Alliance innovation network in 2022.
The second research phase of the innovation network will begin in September 2026.
Why? Because the future requires collaboration and communication, discourse and discussion, knowledge transfer, and science to develop a shared vision.
How? Together with partners from the real estate industry, cities, startups, and technology providers - through a combination of scientific expertise, applied research, and entrepreneurial competence.
Where to? The goal of the consortium is to establish the “Future District Alliance” as the largest and most successful think-and-do tank for forward-looking neighborhood, campus, and site developments in Central Europe.
What? The innovation network addresses current innovations and trends without neglecting long-term changes in society and the environment.
